SFD 2011 in one week

Software Freedom Day 2011 is pretty close and we’ve been trying to make our SFD event in Brno as interesting as possible. The program is pretty much finalized (you can check it out on the wiki page 😉 ). I’ll have a talk on economic aspects of software patents. It’s going to be about what means to share and not to share in research and development in terms of cost, profit etc. Jarda Řezník will have talk “Why students should contribute to free software“. His is a good example of how being an active FLOSS contributor may bring you a great job. Linux recently celebrated its 20th birthday and we’ll like to recall all its successes and milestones on the way from a student project to the world-wide successful operating system. Martin “Martix” Holec from Openmobility will come to talk about recent news in open source mobile technologies and we’ll have some talks about interesting FLOSS projects, too.
The second part of the event will take place in the pub “Plzeňský dvůr” and it will have a form of the traditional “Linux in Brno” meeting. Moreover, the Czech Ubuntu community has joined us and called their meeting to Plzeňský dvůr, too. So if you like to meet local Linux community, the second part might be interesting for you, too. Just don’t forget to register so that we can know for how many people we should make a reservation. You don’t have to register if you’re going to attend just the first part because the room, that is provided by Red Hat Czech, is sufficient.
